Choosing Good Eco Cars, Hybrid Car, Biodiesel

Executive summay by James Hand
Honda and Toyota have long been the fuel sipping masters of the automotive industry and still are able to hold the crowns of eco cars.

Toyota launched into the fuel miser, eco cars market more then forty years ago with the introduction of the Corolla. Both manufacturers have maintained this level of fuel consumption even with the ever increasing size of their cars. Honda took the first steps in the next generation of environmentally friendly cars with the introduction of the first mass produced hybrid vehicle for North America, the Honda Insight.

The eco cars Insight was based on the Honda J-VX concept which was unveiled at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show, and these eco friendly cars hit the market in December 1999. The car remained the most fuel efficient machine available in the U.S. while it was produced and is still the leader of any current mass market car. The Honda Civic Hybrid was introduced in the 2003 model year to compliment Honda’s commitment to eco cars and environmental sustainability

Toyota entered into the Hybrid market of friendly cars with the introduction of the Prius. Even with its higher price tag it is a benchmark for the hybrid eco cars market.

Ethanol

The nice thing about ethanol cars is that they can run on traditional fuel or ethanol as available.  Often ethanol costs less at the pump than traditional fuel but the downside is your car selection may be limited.

Natural Gas
Natural gas cars are another option but probably not the best for most of us.

Biodiesel
Biodiesel cars are more readily available than natural gas cars and are a good choice for those that live in year-round temperate climates. Biodiesel cars similarly get more mileage than normal diesel cars, but the cost of biodiesel fuel is significantly high compared to petroleum spirit, and marginally higher than normal diesel.

Hybrid
The most available eco friendly cars and the best choice for the majority of drivers are hybrid cars.  These cars run on in part or in total on a battery that is fueled whenever your car brakes.  You do not need a special fueling station to benefit from this type of car.  A car like the Prius relies more heavily on the battery than a car like the Civic.

So what do think the best eco car for you to drive
