New Honda Hybrid Cars: Civic Hybrid
The Honda Civic Hybrid was introduced in 2002 as a direct competitor to the Toyota Prius. The 2010 incarnation sports a 110-hp 1.3 liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine with Integrated Motor assist (IMA) and permanent-magnet electric motor.
The Honda Civic Hybrid features all the amenities of the decked-out EX model (sans moonroof) and adds several “goodies” unique to the hybrid.
2010 Honda Civic Hybrid
The 2010 Honda Civic is one of the highest rated cars in it’s class. All of the available trim packages are the DX, DX-VP, LX, LX-S, EX and EX-L.
DX-This base model comes with power windows, height adjustable driver’s seat, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and 15 inch steel wheels. A five speed manual transmission is standard with a five speed automatic as an option. Standard safety features include full length side curtain airbags, front seat side airbags, ABS brakes, and active front head restraints.
LX-This model adds cruise control, full power options, 16 inch steel wheels, folding rear seat back, keyless entry, and a sliding armrest center console. The optional LX-S package adds chrome exhaust outlet, front sport seats, alloy wheels, rear spoiler, and a leather wrapped steering wheel. A five speed manual transmission is standard with a five speed automatic optional. All engine and safety features stay the same.
DX-VP or the basic value package models come equipped with a CD/mp3 player and Air Conditioning. The next step up is the LX model which has keyless entry, 16 inch wheels (15 inch on DX), a folding rear seat, and additional cruise control.
With more offered for available features and standard options there is the EX model. These were engineered for performance and offer a great selection of standard accessories.
All engine and safety features stay the same
Engines offered for the 2010 Honda Civic include a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine with 128 foot pound torque, and up to 140 horsepower. Each model is offered with the basic 1.8 liter gasoline engine, and it is tweaked for performance in the higher-end packages.
Honda Civic hybrid models come with a 1.3 liter 4 cylinder, gasoline engine and an electric engine, giving it one of the best fuel economies of any small car.
A five speed manual transmission is standard with a five speed automatic as an option.
EXL-Adds leather interior, heated exterior mirrors, and heated front seats.
Stability control is added to the safety features on this model. A five speed manual transmission is standard with a five speed automatic as an option. The gas/electric hybrid powertrain maximizes fuel economy and mileage is rated at 40mpg city and 45mpg highway.
2010 Honda Insight
A fraction of defining the evolution of hybrid technology has been rewritten with the new 2010 Honda Insight with its Integrated Motor Assist hybrid technology and more cost-efficient production method.
The Insight also displays many intricate under the hood features including an interactive driver-focused fuel economy enhancement technology also known as the Ecological Drive Assist System (Eco Assist).
The Insight is powered by a 1.3Liter SOHC aluminum alloy i-VTEC engine and CVT; as well as, a new generation of Honda’s IMA hybrid system for outstanding fuel economy. The IMA hybrid system includes a 10Kilowatt, 13horsepower electric motor with an Intelligent Power Unit [IPU].
In addition to the outsized features of the engine AND features of interior, the Honda Insight also has extensive standard/safety features. Some of which include, dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags, front-side airbags, a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System [OPDS], side curtain airbag system, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution [EBD], driver/front passenger had restraints, and a front body designed to lessen pedestrian injuries.
