2010-nissan-Altima-Hybrid

The 2010 Nissan Altima Hybrid is the first attempt to break into the hybrid market from Nissan.  With a 244.8v NiMH battery pack designed by Panasonic, the Altima is a hodge podge of automotive ingredients that range from Ford to Toyota.

The 2010 Nissan Altima Hybrid is a response from Nissan to the success of the Toyota Prius. Nissan claims that diesels are the most efficient route to take with hybrids.  That’s the reason why Nissan is debuting their hybrid line with a diesel.

hatchback, unveiled as the Nissan Leaf, is set to hit the market in 2010 and become one of their standard production vehicles by 2012.

The Japanese automaker has high hopes for its entry into the electric vehicle market.  In addition to the ability to conserve fuel, the Leaf also provides a zero-emission alternative to the standard fossil fuel burning vehicles.

When running solely from electric charge, the car itself will not emit any harmful substances into the environment.  A standard plug adapter is used to charge the Nissan Leaf lithium ion batteries while the vehicle is parked overnight.  Regenerative braking also contributes to keeping the electric engine powered.

Just like a majority of hybrids and electric vehicles, the Leaf’s engine will automatically shut off when the vehicle is stopped.

The economics also vary a bit depending on the cost of electricity and gasoline, but one could expect to pay about 4 cents per mile to operate the Leaf versus about 8 to 10 cents per mile for a 30 mpg gasoline powered car.

The Nissan Leaf should be offered at around the same price as a Nissan Altima or Maxima. It also qualifies for a $7,500 federal electric car tax credit.

Nissan’s aggressive development and marketing of the Leaf is only going to accelerate this trend. Look for electric cars to grab significant automobile market share over the next 3 years.
